Litigation

Picture of law books Below you will find a description of each of the types of lawsuits we generally handle.  While most of the litigation we handle falls into these categories, we have also served as counsel in a wide variety of other matters and would be happy to discuss your legal issues to see if we can be of any assistance.

Personal Injury

From a slip and fall to a car accident, we all suffer injuries from time to time.  Many times we simply get up, dust ourselves off, and go on with our lives.  Sometimes though, things just aren't that simple.  Whether you have been injured or someone who was injured is claiming that you are to blame, we strongly recommend that you seek legal advice.  Whether you choose us or you choose another lawyer or law firm, in today's world when an injury occurs, too often the stakes are far too great to go it alone.  A good lawyer will help you evaluate the situation, provide you with the objective advice you need at a time when passions are often running high, and pursue any reasonable claims you might wish to pursue and defend you against any claims someone else might be making against you.  We deeply hope you will talk with an attorney if you are ever involved in a personal injury situation and would be honored if you decide to consider us.

Business Disputes

Over the years we have handled numerous business disputes.  Below is a representative sample of the types of litigation we can help you with:

  • Mechanic's Liens
  • Breach of Contract
  • Shareholder Disputes
  • Business Dissolutions
  • Contract Enforcement Actions
  • Tortious Interference with Contractual Relations
  • Tortious Interference with Prospective Contract/Business Relations

Matrimonial (Divorce/Custody)

Unfortunately, relationships and even marriages do not always work out.  Less fortunately still, it often takes the skill and knowledge of a good lawyer to obtain the best possible outcome when there is a falling out.  If any minor children exist, the laws require the appointment of a guardian ad litem (a legal term which means "someone whose sole job is to look out for the best interests of the child") or a law guardian (a person similar to a guardian ad litem but who is appointed to represent minor children for different matter than a guardian ad litem) or possibly both.

We have represented husbands, wives, plaintiffs, defendants, grandparents, and others in a wide variety of issues; from uncontested divorces to contested divorces to separation agreements to custody battles to visitation rights actions... we've seen them all.  Admittedly, these matter are never fun.  But for us, it is satisfying to know that we've been able to help someone get a fresh start in life and have done the best we can to make sure that that person gets a fair shake.  And that's what makes this area of the law one we choose to practice.

Real Estate Litigation

There are only three effective options to clear up a land issue: mediation, arbitration, and litigation.  We can help you with any of the three.  Land issues can be some of the most heated and passionate issues there are.  Despite the existence of approximately 57.5 million square miles of land on the Earth (that's approximately 36.8 billion acres), most people, the author of this included, are very partial to the land they live on and do not want to see any adverse actions taken against it.

Our primary practice in land-related litigation is in the areas of boundary disputes, adverse possessions, and title problems or issues.  Please feel free to ask us about any other land issues or concerns you may have, though.  We're always happy to take a look at a problem for you.  If we can't help you, all you'll be out is an hour's worth of your time.
